Glacier National Park & Banff National Park of Canada

It has been years since I have written in this blog and was reviewing some old posts. Maybe I’ll continue it, maybe I won’t. Haven’t yet decided what I wanted to do. It’s been 7+ years since my last post now that I am a professional in my career and a mother of 2. Life has changed a lot and for the better. No one will understand unless you are a parent that balancing act, selflessness, difficult times, and how being a parent is a thankless job yet a rewarding one. No one will care about your own kids as much as you do, and doing whatever to protect them at all costs. I have spent the last 3 years dedicating my life and everything to my kids almost to the point that I lost a little bit of my former self. I have contemplated life during many difficult times, and what it means to be a mother and where I currently fit in society. My interests have changed and I find myself putting my kids first in everything I do. That also means not doing much for myself. Things I have used to enjoy such as hiking, taking photos, trying new restaurants with friends, etc. I no longer do. So when the question of my 35th birthday came up and what I would like to do was asked, I could honestly say I didn’t know. A friend asked, “Why don’t you go hiking again like you used to? You don’t ever go out anyway. Do something for yourself for once.” I thought about those statements and thought about it for some time. I missed going to Canada annually pre-Covid times and decided maybe this is what I will do. I did not want to go to the same places I used to visit and decided to research new places. Glacier National Park, Kootney National Park, Banff National Park as well as Icefields Parkway were all on my new trail list of looking into. I literally had 3 days to plan and decided to wing it. Here are some photo preview of some of the hikes and more blogs to come (maybe).

Oh! Ridge Campground at June Lake

My friends, and I decided to do some camping at Yosemite during Labor Day weekend but it was planned a few months late. Last minute, I found an open campground outside Yosemite, and I was a bit unsure of it. I didn't know how the campground was and what they offered. I tried to research it online but didn't find much information. I took a chance and still continued to research and read vague reviews on it. When the weekend came, I was so glad we stuck with it. The campground was amazing! The campsite is located in Inyo National Forest and is about 1.5-2 hours from Yosemite Valley. The campground was divided into sections named after animals. The only campground with a lake view was Bear and Duck. All others didn't have a lake view but still surrounded by beautiful mountain views. The Rabbit campsite itself wasn't right in front of the lake but I felt with how everything was, it was fine. They had flushable toilets, potable water, a fire pit, grill, table and designated drive-in for your car. One drawback would definitely be the lack of shade that a lot of these campsites have. The only cell service available out there was AT&T and Verizon. Overall, I would recommend this campground!

The Ice Bar in West Covina

Ice Bar in West Covina is a cute little dessert place where they serve regular ice cream as well as customized decorated pop bars. Similar to Popbar in Anaheim, this place offers different toppings beside just regular chocolate and nuts. These pops offer a different blend of flavors. Things that I thought that would be weird to eat with ice cream worked out pretty well. It's definitely a nice treat on a hot day. I tried the strawberry mango pop with chile, lemon, and mint. Was dee-lish and worth a try. My friends got the green milk tea and strawberries and cream which all were very delicious. A definite recommend if you are in the area.

Devil's Chair & View of Devil's Punchbowl

Devil's Punchbowl View from Devil's Chair

Hike Breakdown:
Level: Moderate
Distance: 7.5 miles
Elevation Gain: 594 feet
Parking: Adventure/Interagency Pass

This hike is located in the San Gabriels and in Angeles National Forest. I was very surprised with this hike because I didn't think it was going to be much of a workout but it was! I had the opportunity to do this hike with my favorite people and it was definitely an enjoyable experience. It was a fairly hot day, in the 80s and the hike was intermittently shaded. Trails are well defined and the hike has many wonderful views of Devil's Punchbowl by the ranger station. There is also a loop if you wanted to do a really short hike. I'm definitely coming back during fall/winter time for this hike. I can imagine how beautiful it would be with all the snow.

This sign is posted a few miles before you hit the chair.

There were 180 views of Devil's Punchbowl before the start of the hike.

Start at Burkhart Trail that eventually splits to the main trail.

No clue what kind of insect that is

The trail is surrounded by many colorful plants.

No shade here...and not for awhile.
